Efraín González Ruano

Efraín González Ruano was born January 27, 1976, in Toluca, Mexico.  He began his studies with his mother, professor Ana María Ruano, at the age of five.

In 1994, he graduated as an Instructor of Music from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, specializing in piano with professor Leonor Montijo Beraud. He continued his piano studies at the Conservatory of Music of  Baja California with professors Farizat Tchibirova and Irina Tchetchko.

From 1997 until 2002, he earned his bachelor’s degree in piano performance at the University “Mozarteum” in Salzburg, Austria, and in 2006 finished his studies there towards the completion of a master’s degree as Concert Pianist under the direction of esteemed faculty members Alfons Kontarsky and Rolf Plagge.

Efraín has participated in master classes with Rudolf Kehrer  in Vienna, and with Alexander Lonquich, Naoya Seino and Wolfgang Manz  in Salzburg.

For the 1998-1999 school year he received a scholarship from the Austrian government.  In 2000, Efraín González was selected by the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation in Salzbug as a scholarship recipient for concert pianist.  From 2003 through 2005 he received the support of the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (National Fund for  Culture and the Arts of Mexico) to continue his master’s studies.

Efraín González has performed concerts and recitals in Germany, Austria, the United States, and his native Mexico.  In recent years he has held workshops for children of the age of  4 to 10 at music festivals in the USA, and has taught master classes in piano performance in Mexico for piano students at conservatories and music universities.

Since 2004, Efraín has also studied voice, first with Secil Ilker (Staatsoper Wien), Lajos Kendi and Mexican Tenor Pedro Velázquez-Díaz (Theaters in Linz, Austria and Hannover among others). From 2006 to 2007 he continued his studies with Prof. Heather Hartinger (Universität Mozarteum) and from 2007 on he has studied with Mexican Tenors Arturo Martin and Luis Chapa (both soloists at the opera in Bonn among others).
