Christine Gerwig was born on August 5, 1976, in Hennef, Germany.  She began her studies at the age of eight with her grandmother, pianist Gilberte Van Deyck;  a  short time later she began performing in public. She subsequently studied with professors Philipp Vogler and Regina Brüning in Cologne, and from 1992 through 1994 with Roberto Szidón at the Musikhochschule in Hannover, Germany.

In 1995, Christine Gerwig continued her studies at the University “Mozarteum” in Salzburg, Austria under the direction of professor Alfons Kontarsky.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in musical pedagogy from the Mozarteum in 1999, and in 2002 in piano performance as a student of Rolf Plagge.  In 2006 she finished her studies there towards the completion of a master’s degree as Concert Pianist.

She won several prizes at junior competitions, among them two special prizes for ‘best interpretation of a work by Mozart,’ in 1991.  In 1998, as a member of a chamber music trio, she was finalist at the Friedrich Kuhlau International Competition, held in Uelzen, Germany. 

Christine Gerwig has participated in Master classes with Roberto Szidón in Switzerland, with Alexander Jenner in Vienna, and with Christof Lieske, Wolfgang Manz, and Menahem Pressler in Salzburg.  She has performed concerts and recitals as a soloist,  a chamber musician, and as a German Lied accompanist in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Mexico.

In recent years she has held workshops for children ages 4 to 10 at various music festivals in the USA, and also taught master classes in piano and German Lied in Mexico for piano students and singers at conservatories and music universities.
